Finding a Regression Line with the TI-83 Calculator

Edit a List (put data into lists)
  1. STAT
  2. EDIT
  3. Enter values into desired lists
     (To clear a list, put the cursor on the list title, press CLEAR, and press ENTER)

Graph a Scatter Plot

  1. 2ND Y= (which is StatPlot)
  2. Choose a Plot# and press ENTER
  3. Press ENTER on ON
  4. For Type, choose the first type of graph by arrowing to it and pressing ENTER.  This is a scatter plot.
  5. Choose the list in which the x's are listed by typing 2ND 1 (or whichever number your list is)
      6. Do the same for the list in which the y's are listed
  6. Arrow to the mark you want to use for graphing and press ENTER
  7. ZOOM 9
Find a Regression Line
  1. STAT
  2. Arrow to CALC
  3. Arrow to LinReg (ax + b) and press ENTER
  4. Type list numbers in which x and y are stored separating them with a comma (2ND #)
  5. Put a comma after your y number and type in the place you want to store the equation so it will be graphed by typing VARS, YVARS, choose Y1 (or whichever place you wish to store the equation).
  6. Press ENTER
Graph the Line
  1. ZOOM 9
  2. The next time you graph the same equation, you can just type GRAPH.
