Travel and Tourism Marketing
Wooddale High School
I have taught eleventh and twelfth grade students at Wooddale High School for the past fifteen years. The first eleven years of my career I taught Marketing Education. About five years ago, the Aviation Program was being developed at Wooddale High School and some of the administrators felt that Marketing should become part of the program.
We started with Aviation Marketing as a pilot course in the 1994-1995 school year. I was fortunate to attend several Aviation Conferences and learned of the Travel and Tourism courses that were being taught as part of Aviation programs across the country. I observed a couple that were very successful and I, along with some of the administrators, begin thinking in that direction for the Marketing program at Wooddale High School. This is the third year I have taught Travel and Tourism Marketing as part of the Aviation Program at Wooddale.
I received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Marketing and a minor in Economics from the University of Memphis in August of 1965, a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1982, a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision in August of 1993, and my 45 above in August, 1996. I continue to attend workshops and conferences to keep up to date in my related area. I am a member of the Memphis Hotel/Motel Association, Tennessee Vocational Association, American Vocational Association, and Kappa Delta Pi. I have held offices in the Marketing Teachers Association and The West Tennessee Vocational Association.
I feel fortunate to be a part of the Aviation Program at Wooddale High School. The technology provided in the classroom is excellent for motivating students to learn. Travel and Tourism Marketing is an exciting subject to teach students and the technology provided the teachers in the aviation program enhances what we are able to accomplish in each class.
