US Government
US Government is a one semester course that the students usually take when they are in the eleventh grade. Some of the major themes covered in US Government are:
1 - The Growth of Democracy : The evolution of democracy both in theory and in practice.
2 - Federalism : The American system of spreading power between state and national governments.
3 - Separation of Power & Checks and Balances : The American system of further spreading power among the three branches of government.
4 - Civil Liberties : The notion that the government must respect the basic freedoms of the people.
5 - Civil Rights : The notion that the government must promote equal rights and protect against discrimination.
6 - Civic Participation and Civic Responsibility : Necessary for a healthy democracy.
7 - Political Processes : The intrinsic and extrinsic forces that shape our government.
Some of the special projects that take place in this course include a class trip to the National Civil Rights Museum and witnessing the Mock Trial.
