Travel and Tourism Marketing is one of the major components of the Aviation and Travel Optional Program at Wooddale High School. Students enrolled in this program are exposed to a world of exciting travel and tourism career opportunities.

Travel and Tourism Marketing I curriculum includes an introduction to economics, marketing, and geography and how these areas impact the travel industry. The juniors taking Travel and Tourism Marketing in the eleventh grade will have English, science and math classes with the Travel and Tourism theme integrated into the curriculum. The latest technology provided through the NASA Grant will allow these students to work on the same project and computers connected to different classrooms.

Travel and Tourism Marketing II is a more in-depth study of the Travel and Tourism industry. Students enjoy hands on training in the second year such as simulation activities to learn about reservation systems, internet exploration and field trips to related industries.

Students are encouraged in both the first and second year to work in travel related industries for school credit. The student can find the skills used in the classroom with on the job training to become prepared for the school to career transition.

DECA is an educational youth organization designed for students enrolled in Marketing and is an integral part of the total Travel and Tourism Marketing program at Wooddale High School. Regional, State and National competitions provide students with interactive learning opportunities representative of the workforce. Events such as the Travel and Tourism Marketing Management Team Decision Making Event and the Hospitality and Recreation Marketing Research Event are related directly to the Travel and Tourism industry. These events provide the students with opportunities to develop communication, organizational, and problem solving skills that are useful at the work place and in the classroom.

The combination of the aviation theme and academics with the Travel and Tourism theme makes for a very exciting program at Wooddale High School.
